Silvana Mangano in the 60's seen by Pasolini

Silvana Mangano became an instant star with her powerful performance (and exuberant body and sex appeal) in Riso Amaro (visit my post about Bitter Rice). During the 50's she had 3 children with her  producer and husbad, Dino de Laurentiis, and in the 60's she transformed, she got slimmer, she converted into a fragile, elegant, chic woman far away from her sexy begins.

Two genius filmmakers, both homosexual, found Mangano's face and gaze as the perfect woman, the image of the mother, even in Pasolini's Decameron, Mangano has got a cameo at the end of the film as la Madonna, Mary mother of Jesus.

Both Teorema and Oedipus Rex mothers are strong and complicated characters, powerful woman destroyed by passion, a rich Milanese lady in the first, Jocasta, Queen of Thebas in the second.
